Hermonie turned the time turner and before the tribute selection began we all flew away in our brooms..it was an escape plan all along!!! But you’re so bad at flying it that you hi an f***ing tree! What’s this? Bobbie just woke you up and told you a djinn had you!? and for some reason Cas is wearing a tutu, Sam’s dressed’ as a moos and Dean turned to pie! The hell is happening? wuuuut!? you’re not awake yet, you wake up at the cafeteria at school this time. You where in school dreaming that you were dreaming that you were in school that you were dreaming you where stuck in a djinn dream land dreaming of an adventure…
Remember:It is traditional for a keyblade wielder to pick who will be the next to wield one as well. Sora is a keyblade wielder by nature, not because he was selected by a master or wielder. It doesn’t mean that Sora is not a true wielder, it means that while another person did not pick him to inherit a keyblde, the keyblade itself chose him precisely because he has a strong heart. When the keyblade sensed Riku’s darkness it chose a stronger heart and then it became Sora’s permanent keyblade. Ventus has a vital importance to why Sora is a keybade wielder as well but i’ll get to that later.
In Kingdom Hearts 1,after dark Riku is defeated and loses the keyblade to Sora at Hallow Bastion, Riku tells Ansem(the heartless Ansem) “Why..? It was mine!” and Ansem replies “The heart that is stronger and true shall win the keyblade”.
To avoid confusions: Yes, Riku also has his own keyblade but in kingdom hearts 1 he stole Sora’s keyblade because it was originally meant for him, but the keyblade rejected Riku and once Sora fought him it came back to Sora. Once Riku is completely consumed by darkness he unlocks a keyblade. But remember that dark keyblade was also not Riku’s. He was possessed by Ansem and since ansem is Master Xehanort’s heartless then he could conjure a dark keyblade. When Riku is finally free of Ansem he begins a journey to find his own keyblade. This journey begins at the end of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of memories when Riku is asked where is he to go and he answers ‘I’m taking the road to dawn” That is why Riku’s keyblade (in khII) is called way to Dawn.
-now here’s where Ven comes in-
Aqua originally considered choosing Sora to be her successor, but decided against it because Terra had already performed the ritual on Riku and she did not want the two to fight as she and Terra would. However, Sora gained the ability to wield the Keyblade anyway when he reached out his heart to Ventus after sensing Ven’s shattered heart, ven’s heart took shelter within Sora’s heart because it had a similar light to the one Ven has. By joining his heart with Ven’s he gained the ability to wield his own Keyblade, as well as Ventus’s.Sora was destined to have a keyblade either way.
-If Terra performed the ceremony of inheritance on Riku then why did Sora receive his keyblade?
The ceremony of inheritance does not assign a keyblade to a person. The Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony is a trial in which a Keyblade wielder on the level of a Master(not necessarily one who passed the mark of mastery) chooses a person to inherit the power to wield the Keyblade. If the Keyblade accepts the inheritor selected, that person will become able to summon their own Keyblade whenever attempted.
An inheritor can also be accidentally made, if one with the right heart touches the weapon; this is how Kairi became Aqua’s inheritor at Radiant Garden. The only intentional ceremony seen is
performed on Riku by Terra, setting Riku’s fate as a Keyblade bearer.
ok, that part where it says “if the keyblade accepts the inheritor selected” see? Riku was not accepted at that moment but the keyblade knew the world was in need of a wielder because of the chaos that was soon to befall so it came to Sora. The keyblade knew it needed to make an appearance so it did, it was suppose to appear to Riku at that moment, but sensing his darkness it declined the inheritor and chose Sora, who at the same time shares a bond with a keyblade wielder.
-If the keyblade chose Sora because Riku’s heart was weak then what does Ven have to do with all this?
As mentioned above the ceremony of inheritance can also happen if one of the right heart comes in contact with the keyblade. While Sora had no direct contact with Ven’s keyblade,he did have contact with his heart, a heart is connected to the keyblade so Sora in a way did receive the inheritance ceremony via heart.
-“WHy do people with corrupted hearts can wield a keyblades then? you said only right hearts could.”
Remember there are keyblades fueled by darkness since they are connected to how the wielder’s heart is. Master Xehanort’s keyblade is an example. Riku did let darkness into his heart but he was not in control of that darkness and this made him have a weaker heart, unlike Xehanort who could use darkness freely to an extend that he began the concept of dark keyblade wielders.
On another side do remember that in the first game it was not planned for there to be more than one keyblade so technically in the first game there was only one keyblade in the world and it chose Sora over Riku. Later on the plot develops and it turns out anyone of the right heart can wield one.
Alternate plot line:
This plot differences gives forth to another reason of why Sora is a wielder and Riku did not receive the keyblade in the first game. As we learn that there were actually more than one keyblade then there is the possibility that when the worlds needed a keyblade wielder in KH1 the keyblade that was meant for Riku was suppose to appear but it was not possible because his heart was weak at the moment. So it simply did not appear, it chose it wasn’t it’s time to awake. In this alternate plot line Sora did not receive it in his place. Instead Sora’s own keyblade(inherited by Ven) awoke.
The alternate plot line would be at most correct, the reason why it would become Irrelevant is because in Kingdom Hearts 1 the plot placed bySquare Enix had not fully developed the fact that there could be more than one keyblade wielder. They already knew there could be more than one since Mickey had one at the end of the game but they had no explanation on it. So instead we have to connect everything from KH 1 in a coherent way. So without the alternate plot line(which is an observation of mine), the relevant and coherent reason, in summary is the first explanation i gave you. Summary:
-Riku’s heart was weak so the keyblade declined the inheritor
-The keyblade fled to the next inheritor because it knew of Riku’s incapacity to wield a keyblade at the moment.
-Sora receives the keyblade
-Riku is consumed more by darkness and attempts to steal Sora’s keyblade in frustration of not being able to gain his own.
-Sora loses the keyblade because he becomes discouraged by Riku and thus his heart had a weak moment.
-Sora recalls that his friends are his power and the strength of his heart is renewed so when he meets dark Riku to fight him,the keyblade rejects Riku again and Sora gains it back.
-Riku is fully possessed by Ansem and thus wields Ansem’s dark keyblade
-Riku is freed from Ansem and begins a Journy of self discovery
-Riku’s heart is no longer weakened by ill purposes and finally gains his keybalde, way to dawn
My lazy analysis on the Kingdom Hearts opening….it’s so symbolistic!
1)At the start we watch Sora fall or roaming aimlessly then he wakes up. Before the actual opening we hear Sora’s voice say” i’ve been having this weird thoughts lately… like is any of this for real or not..?” So that part when Sora is floating aimlessly it represents him within his mind then waking up to reality.
2) And to what reality has he woken to!? He wakes up to Riku, he sees him as his regular friend but Riku is just there standing with his back turned on Sora. When Sora tries to get near a large wave plunges forth and Riku extends his hand to Sora. Then we see Sora struggling to save his friend but Riku keeps a calm expression with his hand still open even tho he is drowning.
This is symbolistic. Riku is drowning within the darkness and he turned his back on his friend, the extended hand means that he wants to pull Sora into the darkness as well, and within it can also mean an inner cry for help, yet his face is calm while Sora struggles because he knows his intentions, he knows what he is doing. Sora wants to save Riku form the darkness but he doesn’t want to be saved.
3)Then the current of the ocean keeps pulling Sora away toward the shore where Kairi awaits. Ironically and conveniently Kairi means Ocean or the Sea. So symbolically Kairi saved Sora from being lost in the darkness like Riku. As we can see when Sora swims ashore, there is a light, the sun light(to the right) and dark sky to the left,in screen perspective,on sora’s perpective is vice versa) Sora looks at both sides but sees Kairi on the right side, This represents the light of Kairi’s heart, a guiding light to Sora. This is also huge foreshadowing towards certain events in the game that I rather not spoil in case.
4)The he looks up an sees himself falling between the dark and light of the sky. He is reminded of his weakness, of how he is caught between wanting to save his friend and being in risk of falling into darkness in the attempt and altogether falls as well. The falling Sora is also majorly big foreshadowing of evens in Kh3d.
5) Finally, he falls back into the depths of the ocean where he is lost and confused. But when he takes his first step, a light comes forth from underneath and birds fly freely coming form the strands of light. This is symbolizing that he must not fear taking the first step, taking a first step is the only way he will find light. The birds flying symbolize freedom, the light that we will set him free.
There is a trophy in the God of War: accession game that makes reference to naughty dog’s best seller, Uncharted.
It’s called “No Drake. You can’t have these artifacts”
